Start clean, read each detector, then drag noise σ up. Which detectors survive? The raw Laplacian drowns first — a second derivative on unsmoothed pixels is almost pure noise. The detectors that blur first (LoG, DoG, Canny) hold their edges far longer: that is smooth before you differentiate, made visible.
